RAY BROOK- A recap of President Bush’s visit to the Adirondacks will be featured on Thursday morning at the Adirondack Park Agency meeting at its headquarters in Ray Brook.
This month’s meeting, being held May 8th and 9th, will feature a look back at the President’s Earth Day 2002 visit to Wilmington with an overview by APA Chairman Richard Lefebvre and a photo slide show by APA Director of Public Information Victoria Hristovski. Wilmington Supervisor Jeanne Ashworth will discuss volunteer efforts associated with the visit, and as the Year of Education continues, a Lake Placid High School student will reflect on her encounter with the President.
Three new projects will be reviewed during the Regulatory Programs Committee meeting beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday. The three new projects involve a shoreline setback structure variance (construction of pedestrian bridges over Saranac River and elevated boardwalk parallel to the river in Harriettstown, in Franklin County); a removal of a dam structure in the Town of Ohio, Herkimer County; and the placement of three telecommunications antennae on a 120-meter ski jump tower in the Town of North Elba, Essex County. Regulatory Committee members will also review a second renewal request for the Town of Keene and the Department of Environmental Conservation for the temporary continuation of a parking lot and shuttle bus service.
An update on the Agency’s regulatory revision initiative will take place at 3 p.m. during the Legal Affairs Committee meeting on Thursday. The update will include the implementation of the May 1st regulatory definition changes and the status of the new set of enforcement regulations.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, the Interpretive Programs Committee will meet and introduce a
strategic plan for the Visitors Interpretive Centers in Paul Smith’s and Newcomb. There will also be a salute to Americorps Volunteers during the meeting.
The next Adirondack Park Agency meeting will be held June 13th and 14th at Agency headquarters in Ray Brook. All meetings are open to the public.
