SARANAC LAKE - June's Adirondack Park Agency meeting will be held at the Town of Harrieststown Town Hall in Saranac Lake, June 12th and 13th, where they will conduct Agency business and take advantage of the location to take a tour of the Saranac Lake River Walk Project.
Before taking the tour at the end of the day on Thursday, Agency Members and Designees will: present two Certificates of Appreciation and three resolutions; review two technical map amendments; be introduced to two Unit Management Plans (UMPs); and review one project involving wetlands.
The Riverwalk project is a long-term comprehensive downtown revitalization effort being undertaken by the Village of Saranac Lake. In May 2002, the Agency granted a variance for Phase II of the project, and in June 1995, the Agency approved a variance for the first phase of plans which involved a paver-brick walkway, river access for car-top boats, and tree and shrub planting. The Agency is scheduled to begin the tour at 3:30 on Thursday.
The Agency will recognize former Chairman Jim Frenette, along with two departing staff members and staff at Camp Gabriels on Thursday morning. Certificates of Appreciation will be given to Justin Taylor, Superintendent of Camp Gabriels, and Officer Grant Wood of Camp Gabriel. Newly appointed Interim Chairman Jim Townsend will also read three resolutions recognizing the hard work and dedication of Tupper Lake native Jim Frenette and his 10 years on the Board and his time as Interim Chairman. Two other resolutions will be read recognizing the Agency's Director of Public Information, Victoria Hristovski and the Agency's Fresh Water Analyst, Sean Connin as they leave the Agency this month.
State Lands Committee Members will meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday where they will be introduced to the Hammond Pond Wild Forest UMP Amendment, and the High Peaks Wilderness Complex UMP Garden Parking Amendment. The presentations are informational only, however, the Agency is expected to make a decision at the July meeting regarding both Amendments. Public comments may be submitted to the Agency until July 2nd, 2003.
Park Policy and Planning Committee Members will also meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to review two technical map amendments. One is the Town of Saranac (Clinton County) the other is the Town of Westport (Essex County). There will also be an update on the status of proposed Chestertown Map Amendments given by Henry Savarie, a Senior Natural Resource Planner with the Agency.
Administration Committee Members will meet from 11 a.m. to noon to review draft guidelines referred to the Committee by the Enforcement Committee.
From 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Regulatory Programs Committee Members will meet to review a new project in the Towns of Peru and AuSable in Clinton County; the Towns of Chesterfield, Crown Point, Westport, and Willsboro in Essex County, and the Towns of Dresden and Fort Ann in Washington County. The project request is part of an integrated, long-term sea lamprey control program for Lake Champlain.
Local Government Services Committee Members will meet from 2 to 3 p.m. and review revisions to the Town of Hague's Local Land Use Program, along with the Town of Westport's Zoning Map Amendment. Both are for Agency action.
Enforcement Committee will meet from 3 to 3:30 on Thursday to review administrative enforcement procedures.
On Friday, June 13th at 9 a.m., the Interpretive Programs Committee will meet to hear reports from the Visitor Interpretive Centers Facility Managers and receive a comprehensive report on Paul Smiths' Facilities.
The next Agency meeting will be held July 10th and 11th in a location yet to be determined. For more information, please contact Victoria Hristovski at (518) 891-4050 ext/173.
