August Agency Meeting Topics

RAY BROOK- The Adirondack Park Agency will meet this Thursday and Friday, August 14 and 15, at the Harrietstown Town Hall in Saranac Lake, New York. The Agency meetings will start at 9:00 both days.

On Thursday, officials of the NYS Department of Transportation will officially unveil new Adirondack Park entrance signs. These signs, styled like the existing entry signs, were fabricated by DOT Region 7 maintenance staff and will replace those signs which have deteriorated over the years. "This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a project which is a shining example of a partnership which benefits the Adirondack Park," commented APA Executive Director Daniel T. Fitts. "We are most grateful to DOT Region 7 Director Carey Babyak for his leadership in this effort."

Following the presentation, the Legal Committee will hear an appeal of a jurisdictional determination involving a boat storage structure on Cranberry Lake. The Committee will also continue to review and discuss revised definition language included in the fourth phase of the regulatory revision process. It is expected that the Committee will spend both its August and September meetings on this topic. Rounding out the morning, the Administration Committee will meet briefly to discuss a code of ethics policy and the Enforcement Committee will hear a reconsideration of an enforcement case.

On Thursday afternoon, the State Land Committee will take up a compliance reporting process, an amendment to relocate the Alice Brook primitive corridor, and a State Land reclassification proposal. The Park Policy and Planning Committee will hear two technical amendments and will be updated by the Assistant Director of Planning, Ed Hood, on Scenic Byway projects in the Adirondack Park. The day will finish up with the Regulatory Programs Committee taking up two permits involving NYCO Minerals, Inc. operations in the Town of Lewis, Essex County.

On Friday morning the Interpretive Committee will continue discussions on the Paul Smiths VIC management plan. The full Agency will then reconvene to take up reports from the standing committees.

The next Agency meeting will be held September 11 at the Harrietstown Town Hall and September 12 at the Paul Smiths VIC. The VIC meeting will be highlighted by the dedication of a new back country trail system at the facility.
