RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on September 11th and 12th. The meeting on the 11th will be held at the Harrietstown Town Hall on Main Street in Saranac Lake. On the 12th, the Agency will meet at the Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center.
On Thursday morning, the Agency will gather at 8:30 and join the Statewide Moment of Silence at 8:46 in remembrance of the lost lives and the tremendous impacts of the tragedy surrounding the events of Septmenber 11th, 2001.
Normal business will resume at 9:00 with the official opening of the September meeting. The Regulatory Programs Committee will meet at 9:30. The Committee will take up two projects involving a mineral extraction proposal by Graymont Materials, Inc. in the Town of Lewis and the Phase II development of the Diamond Sportsmen's Club in St. Lawrence County. Later in the morning at 11:00, the Local Government Services Committee will discuss the Town of Chester local land use program, permit activities in the Park's towns, and the Local Government Services Pilot Project now underway.
At 1:00, the State Land Committee will take up the Alice Brook Primitive Area amendment in the Five Ponds Wilderness Area, a reclassification in the Town of Arietta, and hear presentations on the Dix Mountain and Giant Mountain Wilderness Area Unit Management Plans.
At 2:15, the Economic Affairs Committee will hear a presentation on issues facing the dairy industry in Adirondack counties by Brian Lee, St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development, and Judy Tomlinson of the Empire State Development Office.
The afternoon finishes with the Legal Affairs Committee meeting at 3:35. The Committee will continue its discussion of regulatory revision. Following this discussion, the Enforcement Committee will continue work on Environmental Benefit Guidelines.
On Friday, the Agency will meet at the Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center. At 9:00, the Agency will formally open the new Backcountry Trail System at the VIC. The Agency will hear reports from the standing committees beginning at 10:00.
The October Agency meeting will be October 9th and 10th. On the 9th the Agency will meet at the Harrietstown Town Hall in Saranac Lake, and on the 10th the meeting will be held in North Creek.
