August Agency Meeting Summary

The Adirondack Park Agency Board made the following determinations at the August 13, 2004 meeting.

APA Project Permit 2002-210 - Town of Wells, Hamilton County: Unanimously approve

The Town of Wells was granted a permit, on conditions, authorizing dredging of lake bottom sediment from Lake Algonquin. Lake Algonquin is a man-made impoundment created by construction of a dam on the Sacandaga River in 1924. Several shallow areas and dense weed beds have resulted from deposition of sediment into the lake over time. The permit authorizes the removal of 143,000 cubic yards of sediment from eight separate locations. The primary purpose of this project is to create deeper areas in the lake to improve navigation and recreation.

APA Project Permit 2004-82, NYS DOT Bridge – Town of Jay, Essex County: Unanimously approve

The NYS DOT was granted a permit, on conditions, authorizing the construction of a new bridge spanning the East Branch of the Ausable River, realignment of County Route 82, construction of new Town and County roads, reconstruction of the historic covered bridge, wetlands mitigation and improvements to the Town Recreation Area. The new bridge and related road infrastructure will be consistent with current engineering standards, provide dependable emergency vehicle access, facilitate heavy load vehicle traffic associated with local business needs, provide a crossing within the Hamlet of Jay, restore the historic covered bridge and improve recreational opportunities at the Town Recreation Area.

APA Project Permit 2004-95, NYS DEC – Town of Keene, Essex County: Unanimously approve:

The NYS DES was granted a permit, on conditions, authorizing the use of the piscicide Rotenone to control undesirable fish in Round Pond and Twin Pond. The project objective is to restore brook trout and round whitefish. These ponds are located in the Dix Wilderness Area.
