PAUL SMITHS – Upcoming activities at the Adirondack Park Agency Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) in Paul Smiths will include a “Saturdays are for Kids” snowshoe program and a Bird Feeder Workshop.
The Saturdays are for Kids program on Jan. 8 is titled “Snowshoes on Snowshoes,” and it will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Kids 5-12 years of age are invited to search for snowshoe hares on the VIC trails.
“We will look for signs of these fuzzy mammals and learn some interesting facts about them,” said VIC Environmental Educator 2 Milt Adams.
Preregistration is required for this free program, and snowshoes will be provided. Saturdays are for Kids programs are sponsored by Stewart’s Shops and the Adirondack Park Institute (API).
The Bird Feeder Workshop will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9. People of all ages are invited to construct a wooden bird feeder to take home. Paints to decorate the feeders will be provided. Preregistration is required for this program, and the cost is $3 per feeder (free for API members).

The New York State Adirondack Park Agency operates two VICs, in Paul Smiths and Newcomb, which are open year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Christmas and Thanksgiving. They offer a wide array of educational programs, miles of interpretive trails and visitor information services. Admission is free.
