RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on January 13 and 14 at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY. Meeting highlights include conceptual advice discussion for the Preserve at Tupper Lake and consideration of Saratoga County’s Emergency Communication Towers application. The Agency also will consider the annual classification request, legislative proposals and regulatory reforms.
The Full Agency will convene at 9:00 on Thursday morning for the Executive Director’s year in review report.
At 9:30, the State Land Committee will hear a presentation on the status of the Unit Management Planning (UMP) Initiative. Following this update, a general discussion, in anticipation of future Agency action, will take place on the Wilmington Wild Forest, Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest, Spilt Rock Wild Forest and the Siamese Ponds Wilderness UMPs.
In addition, the Committee will consider a recommendation to proceed to public hearing for the annual classification recommendations for lands not yet classified and a request to reclassifying state land from intensive use to state administrative in the town of Johnsburg, Warren County.
The State Land Committee meeting will conclude with a presentation by the College of Environmental Science and Forestry on GIS analysis tools utilized in UMP planning.
At 11:00, the Interpretive Programs Committee will convene for a presentation on the ongoing programs and initiatives of the Adirondack Collaborative Ecological Educators (ACE2). This group consists of educators from Adirondack Mountain Club, Wildlife Conservation Society, Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, Adirondack Ecological Center and the Roosevelt Wildlife Station at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
At 1:00, the Regulatory Program Committee will consider three projects: a proposed commercial sand and gravel extraction operation in the Town of Indian Lake, Hamilton County, a two-lot subdivision including construction of a salt storage facility and reload site in the town of Johnsburg, Warren County, both for approval, and a recommendation to proceed to adjudicatory hearing on Saratoga County’s proposed new emergency communications towers and associated infrastructure, access roads and utility lines.
The Regulatory Program Committee will conclude with a conceptual advice discussion regarding the “Preserve at Tupper Lake” large-scale resort, residential project proposed in the Town and Village of Tupper Lake, Franklin County.
On Friday January 14 at 9:00, the Legal Affairs Committee will convene for a year-end review. The committee will also review legislative proposals under consideration, as well as, future regulatory reform issues.
At 10:00, the Local Government Services Committee will convene and hear a presentation on amendments to the Town of Horicon’s zoning code and review the new local government section of the Agency’s website.
At 10:45, the full Agency board will convene to hear committee reports and take actions as appropriate.
The next Agency meeting is scheduled for February 10 and 11, 2005, at Adirondack Park Agency Headquarters in Ray Brook, New York.
