Lefebvre next APA Executive Director

Ray Brook - Adirondack Park Agency Board appoints Richard Lefebvre to serve as the agency's next Executive Director.

Chairman Ross Whaley, on behalf of the Adirondack Park Agency Board, today appointed Richard H. Lefebvre of Caroga Lake to serve as Executive Director of the APA. Mr. Lefebvre previously served the agency as a board member, first appointed in 1993, and was appointed Chairman in 1998 by Governor George Pataki. He retired from the agency in November of 2002 with a reputation as a strong communicator and a leader who always sought a sensible balance to Adirondack planning issues.

With regard to this appointment Park Agency Chairman Ross Whaley said, "The board was motivated by Mr. Lefebvre's extensive park agency experience and knowledge and the fact he is well respected among the Adirondack community. The board is grateful that Mr. Lefebvre will rejoin the agency. We look forward to a successful transition and a continuance of the agency's mission to protect the Park's natural resources while balancing the needs of its communities."

Mr. Lefebvre, a community minded individual, came out of retirement in January 2004 to accept an appointment to the Hudson River Black River Regulating District. During his tenure with the regulating district, he was known as a predictable, fair and accessible leader who worked to unify all stakeholders.

In accepting this appointment as Executive Director Mr. Lefebvre said, "It is an honor and a privilege to rejoin the Adirondack Park Agency. The Adirondacks are one of the most beautiful places in the world and I look forward to working again with the many friends I have made at the agency. Going forward, I will diligently apply all my experiences learned to ensure the Park Agency continues to successfully accomplish its mission."

Mr. Lefebvre resides in Fulton County with his wife Gay. He previously worked in the Gloversville School District. He served on the Fulton County Planning Board, City of Johnstown Zoning Board of Appeals, was a past president of the Johnstown Board of Education, is a trustee of the Adirondack Museum, and a member of the Adirondack Institute, Adirondack Architectural Heritage and Caroga Lake Historical Association.
