September Meeting Topics


RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on September 8 and 9 at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY.

The Full Agency will convene at 9:00 on Thursday morning. At this time, the Board will appoint Richard Lefebvre the Adirondack Park Agency Executive Director.

At 9:30, the Regulatory Programs Committee will hear the monthly project status report. The Agency received 37 new applications in August raising the 2005 total to 315 applications. The Agency issued 47 permits in August, for a yearly total of 239 permits issued.

At 10:00, the Interpretive Committee will hear the facility managers’ reports and an update on summer and fall programming events. Staff will highlight the Adirondack Wildlife Festival, held August 14 at the Paul Smiths VIC. Estimated festival attendance was 1,700 people.

At 11:00, the Park Policy and Planning Committee will consider two technical map amendments. These proposed amendments will correct mapping errors, on the official map, for lands located in the Towns of Black Brook and Peru - Clinton County.

At 11:30, the State Land committee will convene for the first reading of a proposed amendment to the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center Intensive Use Area UMP. The proposal focuses on necessary improvements to the ski center’s potable water and fire protection needs.

At 1:15, the State Land Committee will reconvene for the Department of Environmental Conservation’s overview presentation on the Silver Lake Wilderness Area UMP. This 106,770-acre unit is located in the Towns of Lake Pleasant, Benson, Hope, Wells and Arietta - Hamilton County. The DEC issued the draft plan for public review on August 10, 2005 and their public comment period will continue until September 30, 2005.

DEC staff will also give an implementation status report on the High Peaks Wilderness UMP.

At 2:30, the Enforcement committee will hear the monthly enforcement program report. To date enforcement has conducted 226 site visits, opened 270 new cases and closed 269 existing cases.

On Friday, September 9 the Full Agency will convene at 9:00 to hear committee reports and take actions as appropriate.

The Board will then adjourn for a field trip to the High Peaks Wilderness Area. The field trip focus will be on issues related to the State Land Master Plan and Unit Management Planning.

The next Agency meeting is scheduled for October 13-14 at APA headquarters in Ray Brook, NY.
