October Meeting Topics

RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on October 13 and 14 at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY.

The Full Agency will convene at 9:00 on Thursday morning. At this time, the Board will discuss revisions to the agency’s public comment policy.

At 9:30, the Regulatory Programs Committee will consider a permit application for development of a new business park in the Town of Moriah, Essex County. The Essex County Industrial Development Agency proposes to create a six-lot business park for commercial/industrial buildings - ranging in size from 8,500 – 10,000 square feet. The Committee will then be updated on a number of previously permitted projects that had potential aesthetic and visual impacts. This presentation will highlight positive outcomes resulting from permit conditions.

At 10:45, the Legal Affairs Committee will hear a summary report on legal issues resolved during the past month and an update on the status of proposed revisions to the regulatory definition of private campgrounds inside the Adirondack Park.

At 1:00, the Economic Affairs/Local Government Services Committee will convene to outline upcoming committee meetings related to affordable workforce housing inside the Park. Over the next two months, these committees will identify needs and strategies to address affordable housing issues. The November 4 Economic Affairs Committee meeting focus will be resident needs and challenges facing developers trying to create affordable housing. Strategies to address identified needs will then be discussed at the December 9 Local Government Services Committee meeting. Both meetings will be held at the Agency’s Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center.

At 1:45, the State Land Committee will convene for action on a proposed amendment to the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center Intensive Use Area UMP. The proposal focuses on necessary improvements to the ski center’s potable water and fire protection needs. The DEC will provide a first reading of the Shaker Mountain Wild Forest UMP. This unit is located in the southern Adirondack Park and consists of 40,500 acres of lands in the towns of Mayfield, Bleecker, Caroga, Northampton, and Benson in Fulton and Hamilton counties. The committee meeting will conclude with a status update from DEC on the unit management planning initiative.

On Friday morning, October 14 at 9:00, the Park Ecology Committee will convene to hear 2005 accomplishment presentations for ongoing invasive species control programs. The presentations will include the Upper Saranac Lake Eurasian Watermilfoil Control Program, the Paul Smith's College Watershed Stewardship Project and the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program.
