Adirondack Park Agency contributes to hurricane relief fund

RAY BROOK, NY - Adirondack Park Agency contributes to hurricane relief fund; issues resolution honoring Barbara McMartin.

At last week’s Agency meeting Executive Director, Richard Lefebvre, informed Board members that staff contributed two thousand and five dollars to the Red Cross for Katrina hurricane relief. The Public Employees Federation Union initiated the fundraising effort with a generous five hundred dollar contribution. The remainder consisted of contributions from individual staff members. Mr. Lefebvre stated, "Like so many of our fellow Americans, agency staff pulled together during a time of great need. Staff generously contributed to the relief fund with hope of easing some pain and suffering."

Mr. Lefebvre then introduced a Resolution of Respect saluting recently departed Barbara McMartin for her tireless dedication to the Adirondacks. McMartin began her environmental odyssey in the Adirondack Park simultaneously with the inauguration of the Adirondack Park Agency. For 33 years, she courageously and unflinchingly expressed her concerns regarding the protection of the Adirondack Park Forest Preserve. On October 13, 2005, the Adirondack Park Agency paused in its deliberations to remember an eminent scholar, a passionate advocate and a good friend. The full resolution is located on the Park Agency’s website at www.apa.state.ny.us.
