RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on November 3 at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY. On November 4, the Agency will convene at the Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center for the first of two forums on workforce affordable housing.
Please note this month the Agency meeting will start at 1:00 on Thursday afternoon.
At 1:15, the Regulatory Programs Committee will consider two permit applications submitted by the New York State Department of Correctional Services. These proposals involve the installation of telecommunication panel antennas on existing tall structures.
At 2:15, the Interpretive Committee will convene for the facility managers’ reports. Visitation at the Centers is on pace to exceed last year totals.
At 2:45, the State Land Committee will hear a first reading by DEC staff of the Jessup River Wild Forest UMP. This unit consists of 47,350 acres of State Forest Preserve lands in the towns of Arietta, Indian Lake, Lake Pleasant, and Wells in Hamilton County. The unit is bounded by Route 28 to the north and Route 30 in the southeast, as well as three wilderness areas: West Canada Lakes Wilderness to the west, Siamese Ponds Wilderness to the east, and Silver Lake Wilderness to the south.
At 3:45, the Administration Committee will review the agency meeting public comment policy and discuss ways to improve opportunities for exchange between the Agency and the public on current issues.
On Friday, November 4, the Economic Affairs Committee will host the first of two workforce-housing forums at the Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center. The forum, entitled “Defining the Problem - Need, Market Issues and Development Economics”, will start at 9:00 a.m.
An expert panel will discuss specific housing needs facing employees from different sectors of the North Country economy. The panel will also discuss challenges facing developers seeking to create affordable housing. The agency encourages government officials, not-for profits, professional planners, developers and concerned citizens to attend these forums.
At the December agency meeting, the Local Government Services Committee will conduct a follow-up panel discussion to identify measures, consistent with the APA Act, to increase affordable housing within the Park.
For more information on these forums, see the Park Agency’s website at www.apa.state.ny.us.
The Full Agency will convene at 11:00, in the Great Room of the Paul Smiths Visitor Center, to hear committee reports and take actions as appropriate.
The next Agency meeting is December 8, 2005, at the Adirondack Park Agency's headquarters in Ray Brook, New York, and December 9, 2005 at the Agency's Visitor Interpretive Center in Paul Smiths, New York. The follow-up panel discussion on workforce affordable housing will occur during the December 9 Local Government Services Committee meeting.
