RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on March 9 and 10 at the Agency's headquarters in Ray Brook, NY.
At 9:15, the State Land Committee will convene for action on the Silver Lake Wilderness Unit Management Plan (UMP). The Silver Lake Wilderness is a 106,770-acre management unit located in the Towns of Lake Pleasant, Benson, Hope, Wells and Arietta in Hamilton County. It is the fourth largest and southern most wilderness area in the Adirondacks. The plan addresses key State Land Master Plan compliance issues including the West River Road, Northville - Placid trail relocation and Godfrey Road Extension.
The State Land Committee will also act on the Gore Mountain Ski Area UMP amendment. Plan objectives include improving public access to the Gore Mountain Ski Center and forest preserve lands, improving the skiing experience and providing a strong interconnect between Gore Mountain, the historic North Creek Ski Bowl and the hamlet of North Creek. DEC staff will provide an overview of the Moose River Plains Wild Forest Area.
At 1:00, the Interpretive Programs Committee will meet for a summary of the Visitor Interpretive Centers' winter programs and a preview of the upcoming spring programs. At 1:45, the Regulatory Programs Committee will determine approvability for three projects.
The Board will act on the New York Power Authority's Tri- Lakes power improvement project. The purpose of this project is to increase electric system reliability, in the Tri-Lakes Region (Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake) and surrounding communities, through improvements to system capacity and delivery.
The Committee will consider a proposal for a greater-than-25% expansion of an existing commercial sand/gravel and mineral extraction facility. This project is located in the Town of Chester, Warren County.
The third project for action involves installation of a new structure over 40 feet in height. Nextel Partners are proposing a telecommunications tower in the Town of Northampton, Fulton County. An 80 - foot monopole would be constructed next to two Village of Northville municipal water tanks in an area designated Hamlet.
At 4:00, the Park Policy and Planning Committee will hear a proposal to amend the Official Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan Map for land in the Town of St. Armand, Essex County. The proposal would reclassify, from Rural Use to State Land, an approximately .6 acre parcel. The area is incorrectly shown on the official map as private land. This is a technical correction and not a discretionary act of the Agency.
On Friday, March 10, the Full Agency will convene at 9:00 for a presentation by the Regulatory Programs Division. The presentation will highlight the division's responsibilities and operational procedures.
At 10:15, the Local Government Services and Economic Affairs Committees will meet jointly. Staff will update the committees on Local Government Day. The Adirondack Park Local Government Day program is scheduled for March 23 and 24, 2006. Affordable and Workforce Housing is the priority topic. As planned, this year's housing discussions will focus on planning and implementation, and will build on information developed in Local Government Day 2005, the July 2005 Workforce Housing Conference sponsored by Senator Little, and the Agency's recent informational forums.
The Full Agency will convene at 11:00 to hear committee reports and take actions if necessary.
