RAY BROOK - Earth Day and Secretaries Day will be celebrated at the upcoming Adirondack Park Agency meeting on Thursday, April 12 at its headquarters in Ray Brook. Agency members will also welcome another new staff member on Friday, April 13.
On Thursday, Agency members will acknowledge this year’s list of inductees for the Earth Day Honor Roll. As in past years, individuals and groups will receive recognition for their achievements and contributions toward the environment. The names and organizations will be added to the Earth Day Honor Roll and displayed prominently at the Adirondack Park Agency headquarters. Agency members will formally recognize the inductees during Thursday’s meeting. The Honor Roll will be on display at the Agency until Earth Day 2002.
Secretaries Day will also be celebrated on Thursday with a pre-Agency reception for the dedicated secretarial staff at the Agency. For their devotion and professionalism throughout the year, each of the secretaries will receive recognition from Agency members and will be presented with individual awards in appreciation of their daily contributions to the Agency’s work.
The Agency will consider three new projects during the Regulatory Programs Committee on Thursday. Applications are for: Construction of a carport in Chester (Warren County); reconstruction and expansion of an existing porch involving shoreline structure setback variance in Lake Luzerne (Warren County) and creation of a private airport in the town of Essex (Essex County.)
On the Administration Committee agenda, representatives from the Saratoga Springs-based LA Group, a consulting firm, will be seeking input from the Agency on issues to be covered in an updated Agency Towers Policy. The consultant will also give a preliminary report on the progress of assessing tower policies and practices elsewhere.
At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Local Government Services Committee agenda will include and informal presentation of the new updated plan for the Towns of Lake George, a discussion of the statewide planning report of the Legislation Commission on Rural Resources and later the Economic Affairs Committee will have a discussion of the strategies for support of economic development with a local comprehensive plan.
On Friday, April 13, APA Chairman Richard H. Lefebvre will introduce Sunita Halasz as a new member of staff. Sunita is working as a Project Representative for the Resource Analysis and Scientific Services (RASS) Unit. Sunita Halasz joined the Agency as Adirondack Park Project Representative in the RASS division after working as Project Coordinator on two EPA-funded watershed projects with the Agency since July 2000. Sunita completed her B.S. at Cornell University in 1998 in Plant Pathology and received an M.S. from Cornell in 2000 for her forest disturbance study at the William C. Whitney Wilderness. Sunita and her husband Steve live in Saranac Lake and are avid hikers, rock climbers, and ski-orienteerers.
APA Executive Director Daniel T. Fitts will give his Director’s report to the Agency on Friday as well. The Director’s report is an opportunity to brief the Agency Board members on the focused work of the Agency’s staff during the previous month.
Preceding this month’s Agency meeting will be an all-day work session on Exhibit design for the Visitor Interpretive Centers on Wednesday at the Paul Smiths VIC. A report of that work session will be shared with the Agency and its public on Thursday during the meeting of the Interpretive Programs Committee between 2:30 and 4 p.m.
Consistent with a new Agency policy, there will be a 10-minute public comment period on Thursday and Friday at the beginning of the Agency meetings.
The next Agency meeting will be held on May 10 and 11.
