October Meeting Topics

RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Thursday, October 11 and Friday, October 12 at the Adirondack Park Agency Headquarters in Ray Brook, NY.

The Full Agency will convene on Thursday morning at 9:00AM for the Interim Executive Director’s monthly report.

At 9:15, the Regulatory Programs Committee will consider approval of three projects. Niagara Mohawk proposes to replace an existing power line across the Raquette River at the Piercefield Hydroelectric Station. The project includes installation of taller wood poles adjacent to existing poles at three locations, installing a new conductor and removal of the old poles and conductors. The new conductor will be a 46 kV line compatible with the Tri-Lakes reliability project. The proposed project is located in the Town of Piercefield, St. Lawrence County.

The committee will then consider the construction of a 3-foot wide by 215 foot long boardwalk, extending into Lily Pond in the Town of Greig, Lewis County. An 8 by 8 foot dock is proposed for the end of the boardwalk. The proposed boardwalk requires a variance from the APA Act §806 shoreline setback requirements and a wetland permit.

The third project before the Regulatory Programs Committee involves the rehabilitation of Upper Reservoir dam and the construction of a 624 square foot maintenance vehicle and pedestrian access bridge. Removal of shoreline vegetation will result in minor impacts to shoreline wetlands. A variance from shoreline setback restriction is required. The proposed project is located in the Town of Corinth, Saratoga County.

At 11:00, the Interpretive Programs Committee will hear facility manager reports, which will include summer program overviews for both the Paul Smiths and Newcomb Visitor Interpretive Centers.

At 1:00, the Enforcement Committee will convene for the enforcement program briefing. The committee will also hear an enforcement case involving alleged violations of section 806, 809, 810 of the APA Act and conditions of an Agency issued permit. The alleged violations occurred in the Town of Harrietstown, Franklin County.

At 2:30, the State Land Committee will visit Whiteface Mountain to review ongoing expansion efforts approved in the Whiteface Mountain Unit Management Plan.

On Friday, October 12, the Economic Affairs Committee will host a presentation/discussion on Primary Health Care in the Adirondack Park. An expert panel will focus on issues affecting the quality and availability of primary health care in Adirondack Park communities.

At 10:30, the Full Agency will convene for committee reports and to take actions as necessary.
