RAY BROOK, NY – Adirondack Park Agency Status Update on Cellular Projects in the Adirondack Park.
Status report for cellular carrier projects approved, currently under review or projects submitted but deemed incomplete.
This status update covers only cellular carrier projects and does not include other previously reported telecommunication projects (e.g., radio, television, emergency services, etc.).
At the May 2008 Park Agency meeting, the Board approved a Verizon cellular carrier permit for a new freestanding tower located along US Route 9 between exits 28 and 29 of the Adirondack Northway. Since then, there have been no new applications submitted for cellular projects inside the Park.
Two Verizon applications remain incomplete. One application would upgrade an existing tower while the second application would result in a new tower along the Northway between exits 32 and 33 near Poke-O-Moonshine Mountain.
Cellular carrier activity since January 1, 2008:
3 cellular carrier permits approved for new towers
1 cellular carrier permit approved for co-location
1 cellular carrier application for a new tower remains incomplete
1 cellular carrier application for upgrades to an existing tower remains incomplete
0 cellular carrier applications submitted for temporary towers for I-87
Cellular carrier activity May 1973 through present:
55 new cellular carrier permits approved authorizing:
10 new free standing towers
19 co-locations on free standing existing towers
6 co-locations on existing buildings
5 co-locations on water tanks
3 co-locations on existing fire towers
2 co-locations on Olympic ski jump
2 co-location on smokestack
12 tower and/or antenna replacements
1 temporary tower and a second renewal (Town of Mayfield, Fulton County)
19 cellular carrier permit amendments issued authorizing:
10 co-locations on free standing existing towers
2 co-location on fire tower
1 co-location on existing building
1 co-location on Olympic ski jump
8 tower and/or antenna replacements
The number of activities approved exceeds the number of permits/amendments issued because some permits/amendments authorized multiple towers or activities in more than one location.
