Director of Interpretive Programs Sandra Bureau will be stepping down from that post

RAY BROOK - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) announced today that Director of Interpretive Programs Sandra Bureau will be stepping down from that post effective January 1, 2002.

Bureau joined the APA in 1990 as a naturalist at the Adirondack Park Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) in Newcomb. In 1996, she was promoted to director of interpretive programs, which oversees operation and programming of the Paul Smiths and Newcomb VICs.

Agency Chairman Richard Lefebvre thanked Bureau for her hard work and contributions to the VICs over the past eleven years. "Sandy Bureau has utilized her expertise and extensive knowledge to benefit these two facilities for the Agency," Lefebvre said. "We are very pleased with the work she has done for us."

Bureau will be pursuing opportunities in the private sector and continuing work on advanced educational degrees. The Agency will start conducting a search for a replacement immediately.

Optimistic about the APA’s current direction, Lefebvre noted several important projects and partnerships currently shaping the Adirondack Park’s cultural landscape.

"As we look into the future, we see a patchwork of old friends, like the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, and new friends, like the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake and the Adirondack Community Information Centers in Johnsburg, Inlet and Star Lake," Lefebvre said. "Now, more than ever, there are tremendous opportunities to share information and knowledge about the wonders of the Adirondack Park for generations to come."
