Adirondack Park Agency to meet July 13th and 14th

The Adirondack Park Agency will be holding its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on July 13th at its Ray Brook headquarters and July 14th at its interpretive center facility in Newcomb. Among the items highlighting the Agency’s two-day agenda is action with respect to the Santanoni Historic Area proposed classification and unit management plan.

The Agency will convene at 9 a.m. Thursday at its headquarters in Ray Brook. After routine business and an introduction of guest artist Gay Lefebvre’s art work, the State Land Committee will convene to take action on the proposed re-classification of lands creating the Camp Santanoni Historic Area, as well as the proposed unit management plan for that area. The Committee will also consider proposed amendments to the Whiteface Mountain Unit Management Plan.

The Regulatory Programs Committee will then meet at 11 a.m. to continue an ongoing discussion concerning development considerations in the project review process, followed by consideration of two projects, the first involving a variance to the shoreline structure setback restriction to allow for the construction of a fire escape stairway in North Elba, Essex County, and the second involving a proposed communications tower on Rattlesnake Mountain in Willsboro, Essex County.

At 1:30 p.m. the Administration Committee will meet to resume discussion of issues regarding third-party submissions, bi-monthly committee meetings and public comment at meetings.

The full Agency will reconvene at 2:15 to take final action on a package of forty-seven regulatory terms that have been under consideration by the Legal Affairs Committee and members of the Technical Advisory List as part of the Agency’s regulatory revision process. At 3:15 the Legal Affairs and Enforcement Committees will meet. The Legal Affairs Committee will consider a request for a declaratory ruling regarding the Agency’s jurisdiction over a proposal to lease property for the construction of recreational cabins on property in the Town of Altamont, Franklin County, and the Enforcement Committee will review two cases involving alleged violations in the Town of Jay, Essex County, and the Town of Harrietstown, Franklin County.

On Friday, July 14th, the Agency will conduct the meeting at its visitor interpretive center facilities in Newcomb. Committee meetings will resume at 9 a.m., with the Local Government Services and Economic Affairs Committees meeting. Among the items to be considered by the Local Government Services Committee are local program amendments for the towns of Day and Hague, as well as updates on program and map amendments for the towns of Bolton and Queensbury. The Economic Affairs Committee will hear a presentation by staff on commerce parks and business development sites approved by the Agency in recent years. The Agency will then convene to receive and act on the committee reports.

The Agency’s next meeting will be August 10th and 11th and is tentatively scheduled to be held at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Ranger School at Wanakena.
