April Agency Meeting Topics

The Adirondack Park Agency will be holding its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on April 13th and 14th at its Ray Brook Headquarters. Process improvement opportunities, recognition of the Agency's professional secretaries, Year 2000 Earth Day awards, and a presentation addressing agriculture and farmers in the Park all highlight the Agency's meeting agenda.

The Agency will convene at 9:00 am on Thursday, April 13th, and after routine business, will begin the 9:15 am - 12:00 noon meeting of the Regulatory Programs Committee. The Committee will consider the latest in a series of proposals to improve and streamline procedures, this one involving revision of a minor project permit application to ensure easier use by the public. The Committee will also consider a variety of projects including a variance request involving the local water supply in the Town of Peru, a proposal to harvest non-native Eurasian water milfoil in the Town of Caroga, a demonstration project by Cornell Cooperative Extension to augment moth larvae populations to control Eurasian milfoil in Lincoln Pond in the Town of Elizabethtown, and a permit renewal for a commercial paint ball operation in the Town of Ohio.

From 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, the Administration Committee will meet to discuss the Agency's World Wide Web site and to receive input from Agency Members on the format of the monthly meetings. At 2:30 pm, the Legal Affairs Committee will continue the Agency's priority work in regulatory reform by discussing the redrafting of technical definitions and reporting on a meeting with technical advisors asked to provide input to the process. Immediately following the Legal Affairs Committee, the Enforcement Committee will take up a case in the Town of Dresden, Washington County.

Also at 2:30 pm, the Park Policy Committee will meet to hear an update on Route 73 corridor management activities. Following this presentation, the State Land Committee will discuss the Santanoni Historic Area State land reclassification and unit management plan proposals from the Department of Environmental Conservation and will seek authorization to take these matters to a series of public hearings.

On Friday, April 14th, in early observance of Professional Secretaries Day, the Agency will recognize the excellent work of its secretaries in an informal social gathering starting at 8:30 am. At 9:30 am the Agency will reconvene and adopt a formal resolution once again saluting its secretarial staff. Chairman Richard H. Lefebvre will also present the Agency's Year 2000 Earth Day recognition awards for individual and organizational contributions to the future of the Adirondack Park in: resource protection; service to the public; balanced decision making; and, partnerships. Following the awards, the Agency will hear a presentation involving representatives of the New York State Farm Bureau on regional agriculture and the Farm Bureau's perspectives and concerns. Interim and Committee reports will follow.

The Agency's next meeting will be May 11th and 12th at the Ray Brook Headquarters.
