Adirondack Park Agency to Host Discussion of Park Interpretation

RAY BROOK – A special panel discussion on "Community-based Strategies for Park Interpretation" will be held by the Adirondack Park Agency at its Friday, March 10, meeting at the Visitor Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths.

The discussion, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, will focus on five interpretive programs which are either underway or planned within the Adirondack Park. These include the award-winning Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake, the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks which is planned for Tupper Lake, and the Agency's VIC program. Also to be discussed is an emerging interpretive program at the historic North Creek train depot in Johnsburg, Warren County, and a proposed network of Adirondack community information centers facilitated by the Adirondack Communities Program at Paul Smith's College with sponsorship from the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Participants in the discussion will review the background and purpose of each of these programs and their goals for the future. They will be asked to identify future needs and ways in which all of these programs can be strengthened through working partnerships.

In discussing the upcoming panel discussion, Agency Chairman Richard Lefebvre indicated that "this discussion will be of great importance to the Agency as we build on a successful decade of interpretive work at our facilities in Paul Smiths and Newcomb. We would like to discuss how we can make our expertise and resources available to assist other important interpretive programs within the Park."

The March 10 panel discussion is open to the public.
