RAY BROOK, NY – The Adirondack Park Agency is pleased to announce the appointment of John Burth to the position of Deputy Director for Regulatory Programs. In this role John Burth will be responsible for supervising the Agency’s project review, permitting, and enforcement programs.

Deputy Director Burth has over 18 years of Agency regulatory and enforcement experience. He began his career at the Adirondack Park Agency in 2007 in the Enforcement Division as an Environmental Program Specialist 1. His responsibilities included ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations of the Adirondack Park Agency Act, The New York State Freshwater Wetlands Act and the New York State Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers Act.

His professionalism and strong leadership skills resulted in his promotion to a supervisory role as an Environmental Program Specialist 2 within the Enforcement Division in 2010. His oversight and guidance also ensured that the highest degree of environmental mitigation was prioritized and achieved as part of the settlement of violations. In 2019, John Burth was promoted to an Environmental Program Specialist 3 with additional supervisory responsibilities for Agency project review staff.

“Deputy Director Burth brings so much to this position, including a wealth of historical knowledge, an outstanding familiarity with the Adirondack Park’s regulatory framework, and a proven track record of steady leadership. We are excited to see him serve in this critical role at the Adirondack Park Agency,” said Executive Director Barbara Rice.

Deputy Director Burth holds a Master of Professional Studies in Natural Resource Management from SUNY ESF and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Union College.
