Building Safety and Access Improvements Project Underway at APA

RAY BROOK- The Adirondack Park Agency plans to begin construction this week on some much needed public health, safety, and access improvements to its headquarters building in Ray Brook.

Under the direction of the NYS Office of General Services, Plattsburgh's Murnane Construction and three other regional contractors will break ground this week on a new Agency building entrance, conference room, and maintenance garage. The new conference room addition to the Agency's building will double its public meeting space and be fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

For the first time, the Agency will have handicapped accessible rest room facilities and an elevator to enable wheelchair bound individuals to access both floors of its building. The expanded conference room space will allow the Agency to address some fire and safety code deficiencies and better accommodate the increasing number of people who attend Agency meetings. The new maintenance garage will also address code problems associated with the existing maintenance area, currently located in the lower level of the Agency's building.

Work on the building improvements is expected to continue through February, 2004.

For more information on the Agency's building project, please contact the Agency's Director of Public Information, Victoria Hristovski, at (518) 891- 4050, ext. 173.
