RAY BROOK- This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan and the Adirondack Park Agency will celebrate the anniversary at the Thursday, May 8th Agency meeting, being held at the Adirondack Park Visitor's Interpretive Center in Paul Smiths. The Agency will meet on Friday, May 9th at the Town of Chester Town Hall.

As of May 22, 2003, the private use portion of the Adirondack Park Land Use and Development Plan will be 30 years old. In honor of this occasion, Chairman James Frenette will read a letter from Governor George Pataki recognizing the significance of this anniversary. Remarks will also be given by Richard A. Persico who is a former Executive Director of the Agency, and former DEC Counsel and DEC Designee to the Agency.

In addition to the 30 Year Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, the Board will review two new projects and two Unit Management Plans, review and discuss the next phase of regulatory revisions and definitions, as well as receive a presentation on Sustainable Tourism in the Adirondack Park.

At 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Regulatory Programs Committee Members will meet to review a commercial sand and gravel extraction project application in the Town of Peru (Clinton County), and a one-year permit renewal to continue the temporary provision of recreational facilities at Marcy Field in the Town of Keene (Essex County).

A panel discussion of "Planning for Sustainable Tourism in the Adirondack Park" will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday. Ernest Hohmeyer and Wayne Glass, both of the Center For the Advancement of Sustainable Tourism, along with William Osborne, Director of Tourism for Hamilton County, will address the Adirondack Park's financial reliability upon tourism, and how best to build local economies while protecting the quality of the Park's open space and communities.

During the Planning/State Land Committee Meeting at 1 p.m., Members will review a proposed amendment to the Fish Creek Public Campground Intensive Use Area Unit Management Plan. Members will also receive an informational presentation on the High Peaks Wilderness Complex Unit Management Plan Campsite Designation Plan, in the Eastern Management Zone. No action is to be taken on the High Peaks Plan at this time.

The Legal Affairs/Enforcement Committee will meet from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. to discuss and review materials for the fourth installment of proposed regulatory revisions and definitions. Enforcement Committee members will meet to discuss procedures for referring enforcement matters to the Agency.

On Friday, May 9th, Agency Members and Designees will travel to the Town of Chester Town Hall to receive a tour of the new Town of Chester facilities and a presentation on the Town of Chester Local Land Use Program. The Agency will stay at the Chester facility to conduct Agency business.

The Town of Queensbury will make an informational presentation regarding its open space plan. Chris Round of the Town of Queensbury Community Development Office will make the presentation, which is not for Agency action.

The next Adirondack Park Agency meeting will take place on June 12th and 13th in a location to be announced.
