APA Chairman Frenette Announces Intentions to Resign

Ray Brook - Adirondack Park Agency Interim Chairman James C. Frenette announced today that he intends to resign from the APA board. In announcing his resignation, Mr. Frenette said that "There is a time for everything, and this is now the time to move on to other challenges."

"Jim Frenette is a salt-of-the-earth Adirondacker who has been a steadfast advocate for the human and natural communities of the Adirondack Park for every day of his eleven years on the APA Board. He will always have my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for a job well done," said Governor George E. Pataki.

Mr. Frenette, a life-long resident of Tupper Lake, was appointed to the agency in 1992. He has served the agency in a variety of capacities and on a number of committee assignments. In addition to his latest charge of Interim Chair, he currently co-chairs the State Land Committee and sits on the Regulatory Programs, Park Ecology, Interpretive and Administration Committees.

Jim is highly respected in the Adirondack community for his vast knowledge of local governments and state lands. An avid outdoorsman, he has hiked, canoed, or cross-country skied most of the wild tracts of the Park. For many years, he has been a regular participant in the "Adirondack Canoe Classic - the 90-miler." A tireless advocate for his community, Jim volunteers for a number of community projects including the Tupper Lake Tinman and the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce. A railroad enthusiast, Mr. Frenette sits on the board of the Adirondack Railway Preservation Society and is active with "Next Stop! Tupper Lake," an effort to bring Adirondack Rail Road excursions to Tupper Lake. Jim is a retired school teacher and also a Franklin County Legislator having served as Chairman of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors.

"We will certainly miss Jim not only for his vast knowledge of the Adirondack Park but also for his quiet, steady leadership," commented Executive Director Daniel T. Fitts. "We will miss him and we certainly wish him well". The search for a replacement for Mr. Frenette's seat and the other vacancy on the Agency board is underway.
