RAY BROOK - The Adirondack Park Agency’s (APA’s) first-ever chairman, Richard W. Lawrence, Jr., passed away on Wednesday leaving behind a legacy of leadership in the Adirondack Park.
Mr. Lawrence was a lawyer and a businessman in Elizabethtown who served as a member of the Temporary Study Commission appointed by Governor Nelson Rockefeller, which ultimately made the recommendation to create the APA.
"We are very thankful for Mr. Lawrence’s tremendous task and success of being the first Chairman of the Adirondack Park Agency," said APA Chairman Richard Lefebvre. "He loved the Adirondacks and was an inspirational leader and statesman. His legacy will truly live on and he will be missed."
Mr. Lawrence served the Agency with dedication and diligence from 1971 to November of 1975.
